Four Points on the Miss America crown

The Four Points to the Miss America crown represent more than what meets the eye. They represent what the Miss America program is all about: Service, Success, Scholarship, and Style.

Service: Service is the most important point on the Miss America crown, not only because it is my personal platform, Make Your Mark: Teen Volunteerism! But, because it makes you grow as a person; letting you learn more about yourself. I, personally, have learned many new skills through volunteering, made a ton of new friends (shout out to all my girls at Doll Club), and I feel like I have made a difference on people's life and that makes me feel good inside. I want others to have these same experiences and feelings that volunteering has given me.

Success: For me, success is doing the best that you can do; giving 100 percent in everything that you do. Now, I am going to share a time with you that I succeeded. Last year, during track season, I hurt my ankle, but I was determined to not let it effect my running. I run in many different events and some of those events are relays, so I didn't want to let my teammates down. My first event that track meet was the mile, which I was nervous for because it was a long time to run on an injured ankle. As I was running I kept telling myself to just finish the race, just finish. I did get to finish the run, ending up taking third place! I was so proud of myself because I had done my best that I could. My ankle hurt so bad after that, so my coach pulled me from my other events. Even though I didn't get to run anything else, I had succeed in the end because I gave it my best shot.

Scholarship: College is very expensive and I am so glad that the Miss America Organization helps young women like myself achieve the goal of going to college by offering more than $45 million dollars available in scholarship money. Miss America 2011 Teresa Scanlan won over 60 thousand dollars in scholarship money. A round of applause goes to the Miss America Organization! (MAO)

Style: When you have a crown and a sash on people tend to notice you. Girls look up to me and other title holders, so style is important because it lets you show a part of who you are. It shows that you can be trendy and sophisticated at the same time.
